Privacy Policy

Last updated 7 October 2026

This policy explains how Otaku Gems Ltd ("Otaku Gems", "we", "us") handles information when you use the Otaku Gems manga app (OG Manga) and manga.otaku-gems.com. Otaku Gems Ltd is registered in England and Wales and is the data controller for the information described here.

Information we collect

Reading data

The titles in your library, your reading progress (which page of which chapter, and when you read it) and your reading settings, such as vertical scrolling and two-page view. This is stored on your device and, so it can sync between your devices, on our servers.

Anonymous account

The first time you open the app, we create an anonymous account identified by a random ID. It is not linked to your name or email address.

Signed-in account

If you sign in with Apple, Google or an emailed code, we store an identifier from that service and the email address it shares with us (Apple lets you hide your real address). To take part in the community you choose a username and, optionally, a display name, and confirm you are 13 or older.

Public identity and collections

Your bio, selected favourite stories, public shelves, posts, public lists, followers and people you follow are public, including through shared profile links. Lists start private; shelves appear only when you select them. Your purchases, imports, page positions and reading history are never published by the profile. You can edit or remove public content. Blocking hides profiles from each other when signed in; it does not make public links private. Deleting your account removes your profile content and people follows.

Optional profile photo

You can choose a photo from your library or take one with the camera. Only the photo you select uploads when you save your profile. It is cropped and resized, and location metadata is removed. Your saved picture is public with your profile and comments. We do not upload your photo library. You can replace the picture or choose Default to remove it from public view. Unused uploads are deleted within 30 hours; deleting your account deletes your uploaded photos immediately.

Support requests and creator proposals

When you submit a request in the app, we store your reply email, topic, subject, message, status and support replies with your account. These requests are visible only to you and Otaku Gems support staff. When email delivery is configured, notifications are sent to our support inbox using Resend. Deleting your account removes its in-app requests; contact support about email copies retained in our inbox.

Community

Your username, display name, comments and the number of likes they receive are visible to other readers. Your likes, the series you follow, the readers you block and the reports you make are not shown to anyone else, although moderators can see reports. Comments are checked automatically for links, contact details and blocked language before they are posted.

Advertising

The app shows ads served by Google AdMob. Google may collect your device's advertising identifier, IP address, approximate location derived from it, and how you interact with ads. On iPhone and iPad, the advertising identifier is only shared if you allow tracking when asked. In the UK, the European Economic Area and Switzerland, we ask for your consent before personalised ads are shown. If you decline, you will still see ads, but they are based on the content you are viewing rather than on your interests. Learn how Google uses this information at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.

Purchases

Purchases are processed by the Apple App Store or Google Play. We never receive your card details. We receive confirmation of what you bought so we can unlock it on all of your devices; our purchase provider, RevenueCat, processes this on our behalf.

Diagnostics

If the app crashes, we may collect a crash report containing your device model, operating system version, app version and technical details of the error. Crash reports do not include your reading history.

What we do not collect

We do not collect your contacts, precise location or payment card details, and we do not sell your personal information.

How we use information

  • To keep your place in each book and sync your library between devices.
  • To unlock content you have bought.
  • To let you comment, like chapters and follow series.
  • To moderate the community: reviewing reports, removing content that breaks our Community Guidelines and suspending accounts.
  • To show ads that fund free reading, personalised only with your consent.
  • To keep the service secure, prevent abuse and fix problems.

Legal bases

Under UK and EU data protection law, we rely on: performance of our contract with you to provide reading, sync, accounts, community features and purchases; your consent for personalised advertising and tracking, which you can withdraw at any time; and our legitimate interests in security, moderation, preventing abuse, diagnosing faults and showing non-personalised ads.

Who we share information with

We use these service providers, who process information for the purposes above:

  • Cloudflare: hosting, storage and delivery of the service.
  • Google (AdMob): advertising.
  • Apple and Google: app distribution, payments and optional sign-in.
  • RevenueCat: purchase verification.
  • Our email delivery provider: sending sign-in codes and support notifications when configured.
  • Sentry: crash reporting.

Some providers process information outside the UK. Where they do, transfers are protected by safeguards such as the UK International Data Transfer Agreement or the EU Standard Contractual Clauses.

How long we keep information

We keep your reading data, account and comments until you delete them. Deleting your data in the app (Settings, then Delete my data) removes your account, comments, likes and reading data from our live systems straight away and from backups within 30 days. You can delete a single comment at any time. Sign-in codes expire after 10 minutes. Advertising data is kept by Google under its own policies.

Your rights

You can ask us to access, correct, delete or export your information, object to or restrict how we use it, and withdraw consent at any time. You can change ad consent in the app and tracking permission in your device settings. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.

Children

The service is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we will delete it.

Changes

We will update this page when our practices change and show the date of the latest version above. For significant changes, we will also tell you in the app.
